Hermione the Unicorn

Sugar and spice and all things nice, that's what little girls are made of.
And Unicorns.
And Rainbows.

This is Aarohi's Hermione, made using Dawn Toussaint's Hermione pattern.

It took me all of three years to get this done.

I started with a white + blue (like Dawn’s) sometime in 2013. By the time the 4 cones (arms + legs) were done, 3rd trimester fatigue had set in and that’s how the money goes, pop goes the weasel LOL!!
Finally when I did get back to the project last week, I decided to change colors and have pink be part of it since my 3yo daughter loves pink. Surprise, right?!
Just finished it, added mane and tail in rainbow colors because rainbows!
I think the red yarn for the horn was heavier than the yarn used for the body, so the horn is a bit too large, so this Hermione is extra magical!
The intended recipient loves it, can say “Hermione” and tells everyone “my mom made it!”.
So, yeah!

Friendly flowers!

Came across these on Ravelry a long time ago -

That's what the pattern is called - friendly flowers!

Two weeks ago I finally coughed up the five and purchased the pattern. The pattern was in my inbox the next day!

Having used up all my grey cells for work, I just followed the pink + yellow color combination for my first flower. In all it took me about 4 hours to complete, and I did it over one week - a little progress everyday after dinner. That's how I unwind :)

I know the smile got crooked for some reason (not "some" reason!! it got crooked coz it was 1 at night and I wanted to put the thing together so bad! Note to self -  do NOT do detail oriented, not-undoable work after 11 PM, ever!). But even with the lopsided smile the dude perks you up!

This is going to be a birthday present for my friend who is coming over for dinner on Saturday!

I made Ami #2

Ladies & gentlemen!!! I present to you.... (drumroll....) ami number deux!!

I made this for a friend's daughter. Met them for lunch today and they loved him!!

I know this is very very similar to Bobo, but the blue Caron yarn is just so soft!!
And how cute is the top-hat-

And I have an update on the throw blanket that I was working on. But I'll let this post be about this cute gentleman!

My Amigurumi Debut

Amigurumi, or ami for short, is the Japanese art of making knit stuffed toys. I just finished my first ami last week. Its a blue elephant and there is some history as to how he came about.

About two years ago, I went to India to meet family. That's when my good friend and colleague Chad asked me to get him an elephant when I got back :)
That's Chad. He is awesome and a kid. He even told me he'd call the 'phant Bobo! Like that's even a name!

When I did get back, he wasn't too impressed when I walked into the building and there wasn't a grand grey pachyderm marching behind me. I told him the customs wouldn't let it through!! That story served me well for all this time, but of late the elephant conversations became so frequent that I felt like getting him one. I googled for crochet elephant patterns and found a million. I tried two patterns that I did not like. They were just not elephant-like.
Finally, when I found one that I liked I got right to it and made one for my dear friend Chad!!

I've told him that Bobo is not a name, and that he needs to pick a new name. Like Albert. Or Rupert. He can add Jr. or Sr. or "the third" to make him sound royal ;)

Without further ado, here is my yet-no-name ami for you -

He is super cute with his red eyes. I used Dawn's pattern from here and added the hat. I absolutely love the fact that she actually drew her on paper and then wrote out a pattern. Love.

Merry Christmas Chad!! I hope you like your 'phant!
